Holiday  Cookies   - Basic recipe -



 ½  cup  Butter
 ¾  cup  Sugar
 1       Egg
 1½ tsp  Vanilla
 1½ cup  Flour
 1  tsp  Baking powder
 ¼  tsp  Salt
 

Cream butter and sugar.  Beat in egg and vanilla.

Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.  Stir into creamed mixture.

Chill dough for 1 hour.  Roll out thin and cut with cookie cutters.

Bake at 350° for 6 to 8 minutes.

Makes 5 dozen cookies.
 
 
 

FROSTING:

Sift 1 pound powdered sugar.  Add about 1/3 of it to 4 tbl melted butter.  Mix thoroughly.

Beat in 1 egg white.  Gradually add rest of sugar, 1 tsp vanilla and 2 or 3 tbl cream.

Tint with food coloring to desired hue.
