February 6, 2010 (10am-4pm) Back of the Big House  Learn about the lives of those who were enslaved on the plantation.  Free with regular admission.

February 12, 2010 (12-4pm) Victorian Valentine  Living history day set aside for homeschoolers and their families.  Learn about 19th century Valentine customs, make your own Valentine with a quill pen, learn English Country dancing, fan language, and more!  Admission is $5 per person, ages 4 and under free.  No rsvp required.

February 13 (11am-4pm)  - 14 (1-4pm), 2010 Valentine Sweetheart Tours  Step back in time with your sweetheart as you tour the Latta home and hear sweetheart stories from the past!  Tours begin every hour.  Free with regular admission. The Latta Equestrian Center offers carriage rides- call 704-992-1550 for more information.

February 20 (10am-4pm) - 21 (1-4pm), 2010 Civil War Mustering Event  Step into the Mecklenburg County of 1862 as civilians are mustered into the Mecklenburg Grays.  Scenarios will be repeated throughout the weekend, including stump speeches, medical examinations, drilling, civilian demos, and more!  Free with regular site admission.

February 27, 2010 (9am-12pm or 1-4pm) Knitting Workshop  Learn the basics of knitting or solidify your skills! (Cast on, knit stitch, purl stitch, simple patterns, and cast off.) Each session is four hours long and limited to 6 participants. The class fee of $35 includes yarn and knitting needles to take home with you. March 6 (10am-4pm) -7 (1-4pm), 2010 Art of the Blacksmith 19th century blacksmiths on the grounds providing demonstrations.  Free with regular admission.

March 27, 2010 (10am-4pm) What's Cookin' at Latta?  See open hearth cooking in the plantation kitchen, slave cabin, and outside on the grounds.  Learn about period cooking techniques, tour the plantation house, and more!  Free with regular admission.

April 3, 2010 Easter Egg Hunt  Children ages 1-10 can hunt for toy and candy filled eggs across the plantation!  Hunts will be at 11:00am (ages 1-3), 12:30pm (ages 4-6), and 2:00pm (ages 7-10).  There will be grand prize eggs hidden for each age group!  Have children in more than one age group?  Make a day of it and picnic, visit the farm animals, tour the plantation house, and see the Easter Bunny on the covered wagon!  The cost is $5 per child (2 free adults per child, additional adults pay regular site admission).  Pre-registration is required!

April 10, 2010 (10am-4pm)  Civil War Soldier For a Day  Boys and girls ages 8-12 will be mustered into the Northern and Southern armies for a day!  This one day version of our popular summer Civil War Soldier Camp will take children back in time for a Civil War experience they will never forget!  After learning about soldier life, they will drill, battle, and end the day with a graduation ceremony.  Children will receive a Civil War kepi (hat) to keep and other equipment will be loaned to them for the day.  The cost is $40 per camper and pre-registration is required.  Contact Matthew Waisner at 704-875-2312, ext. 305 or mwaisner@lattaplantation.org for more information.

April 14, 2010 (10am-4pm)  Spring Homeschool Day  Living history day set aside for homeschoolers and their families.  Participants can tour the plantation, visit the animals, participate in hands-on history activities, make crafts, and more!  Admission is $5 per person, ages 4 and under free.

April 16-17, 2010 (9pm-2am) Ghost Hunt  This is a unique opportunity to conduct a scientific paranormal investigation across the plantation at night.  Led by the North American Society, participants will have a one hour training session, followed by small group investigations around the site.  The cost is $60 per person and pre-registration is required.  Click here for registration form.

April 24, 2010 (10am-4pm)  Discover Latta Plantation Girl Scout Event  This event is open to all visitors!  Girl Scouts that trained in March will return to demonstrate their living history skills to the public.  Interpreting the lives of early 19th century planters, yeomen, and enslaved African Americans, the girls will demonstrate open-hearth cooking, spinning ,weaving, cornhusk dolls, candle making, butter churning, house tours, English Country Dancing, and more!  Admission is $6 per person, ages 5 and under free.

May 15 (10am-4pm) - 16 (1-4pm), 2010 World War II Event 

May 29, 2010 (10am-4pm) Living History Day See the plantation come to life through living history demos!  Visitors can tour the plantation house and grounds, as they see blacksmithing, weaving, open-hearth cooking, farm life, and much more!  Children can make crafts and dance around the maypole!  This event is free with regular site admission!

June 5, 2010 (10am-4pm) Fire Starting Workshop  Learn the basics of primitive fire building.  The workshop will cover fire starting with friction, flint & steel, magnifying glasses, make char cloth, and more.  The class fee of $30 includes a basic fire starting kit.  Pre-registration is required.

June 14-17, 2010 53rd North Carolina Call to Arms Camp  Civil War Camp for boys and girls ages 13-14 who have graduated from Latta's Civil War Soldier Camp.  Click here for more camp information.

July 12-15, 2010 Historic Encounters Summer Camp  Boys and girls ages 8-12 can step back in time as they learn about life in the 19th century North Carolina backcountry.  The week will be filled with hand-on activities, crafts, horseback riding, canoeing the Catawba River, hiking the nature preserve trails, and a visit to the Carolina Raptor Center.  Click here for more camp information.

July 17-18, 2010 Civil War Reenactment  Relive the battle between North and South as soldiers reenact the American Civil War.  The Sample family who lived at Latta from 1853 to 1922 had four boys who fought and survived the war.  Visitors can walk through the soldier camps, shop with period sutlers, tour the plantation house and grounds, and watch the main battle at 2:00pm each day.  Admission is $7 per person, ages 5 and under free.

September 4-5, 2010 (10am-4pm) Revolutionary War Reenactment  Relive the American Revolution as soldiers reenact local battles.  Visitors can tour soldier camps, see living history demonstrations, visit the plantation house, and watch the main battles each day.  On Saturday soldiers will reenact the Battle of Charlotte which originally took place at the corners of Trade and Tryon Street in Charlotte.  On Sunday, soldiers will reenact the Battle of McIntyre Farm which was fought just a few miles from Latta off Beatties Ford Road.  Admission is $7 per person, ages 5 and under free.

September 25, 2010 (4-8pm) Bluegrass and BBQ Fundraiser  Support Historic Latta Plantation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) site, as you enjoy live bluegrass music, local bbq, a silent auction, and more!  Children can play in the bounce house, ride ponies, and explore the plantation grounds.  Tickets are $20 per person, ages 5 and under free.

September 29, 2010 (10am-4pm) Fall Homeschool Day  Living history day set aside for homeschoolers and their families.  Tour the plantation house, outbuildings, and grounds, see history demonstrations, make crafts, and more!  Admission is $5 per person, ages 4 and under free.

October 9-10, 2010 (10am-4pm) Folklife Festival and Craft Show  Enjoy fall on the plantation as you tour the site, see 19th century living history demos, and shop with both period and modern local arts and craftsmen.  This is a great chance to do your holiday shopping early and support local artists!  Free with regular site admission.

October 15, 16, 22, 23, 2010 (7pm, 8pm, 9pm) Ghost Tales in the Dark  Participate in a candlelit tour of the plantation at night, as you hear real ghost stories from staff and volunteers.  Admission is $12 per person, and pre-registration is required.  This event is for ages 12 and up only!

November 26-27, 2010 (10am-4pm) Plantation Christmas  Begin the Christmas season by stepping back into an 1860s Christmas.  The plantation will be decorated for a time period Christmas. Visitors will learn about 1800s Christmas traditions and meet a Victorian St. Nick in the plantation house, see open-hearth cooking in the kitchen, and a slave Christmas in the cabin.  Free with regular site admission.

December 4, 2010 (6-9pm) A Candlelight Christmas  Step into an 1820s Christmas at Latta as you tour the plantation by candlelight.  Visitors can meet animals in the carriage barn, see dancing in the house, meet Mr. and Mrs. Latta, enjoy the excitement of children before bedtime, see a Christmas meal being prepared in the kitchen, a slave family celebrating in the cabin, and more!  Admission is $6 per person, ages 5 and under free.

December 8, 2010 (12-4pm) A Homeschool Christmas  A 19th century Christmas celebration set aside for homeschool and other families.  Visitors can tour the plantation house to learn about 1800s Christmas customs, see cooking in the kitchen, a slave Christmas in the cabin, make crafts, and meet St. Nick!  Admission is $5 per person, ages 4 and under free.
