your sweetheart as you tour the Latta home and hear sweetheart stories from

(1-4pm), 2010 Civil War Mustering Event Step into the Mecklenburg
County of 1862 as civilians are mustered into the Mecklenburg Grays.
Scenarios will be repeated throughout the weekend, including stump speeches,
medical examinations, drilling, civilian demos, and more! Free with
regular site admission.
February 27, 2010 (9am-12pm or 1-4pm)
Knitting Workshop Learn the basics of knitting or solidify your
skills! (Cast on, knit stitch, purl stitch, simple patterns, and cast off.)
Each session is four hours long and limited to 6 participants. The class fee
of $35 includes yarn and knitting needles to take home with you. For
reenactors and history buffs alike, this is an excellent opportunity to
increase your skill base and add to your repertoire of "period"

Cookin' at Latta? See open hearth cooking in the plantation
kitchen, slave cabin, and outside on the grounds. Learn about period
cooking techniques, tour the plantation house, and more! Free with
regular admission.
April 3, 2010 Easter Egg Hunt Children ages 1-10 can hunt for
toy and candy filled eggs across the plantation! Hunts will be at
11:00am (ages 1-3), 12:30pm (ages 4-6), and 2:00pm (ages 7-10). There
will be grand prize eggs hidden for each age group! Have children in
more than one age group? Make a day of it and picnic, visit the farm
animals, tour the plantation house, and see the Easter Bunny on the covered
wagon! The cost is $5 per child (2 free adults per child, additional
adults pay regular site admission). Pre-registration is required!
April 10, 2010 (10am-4pm)
Civil War Soldier For a Day Boys and girls ages 8-12 will be
mustered into the Northern and Southern armies for a day! This one day
version of our popular summer Civil War Soldier Camp will take children back
in time for a Civil War experience they will never forget! After
learning about soldier life, they will drill, battle, and end the day with a
graduation ceremony. Children will receive a Civil War kepi (hat) to
keep and other equipment will be loaned to them for the day. The cost

plantation, visit the animals, participate in hands-on history activities,

Hunt This is a unique opportunity to conduct a scientific
paranormal investigation across the plantation at night. Led by the
North American Society, participants will have a one hour training session,
followed by small group investigations around the site. The cost is
$60 per person and pre-registration is required.

Discover Latta Plantation Girl Scout Event This event is open to
all visitors! Girl Scouts that trained in March will return to
demonstrate their living history skills to the public. Interpreting
the lives of early 19th century planters, yeomen, and enslaved African
Americans, the girls will demonstrate open-hearth cooking, spinning
,weaving, cornhusk dolls, candle making, butter churning, house tours,
English Country Dancing, and more! Admission is $6 per person, ages 5
and under free.

Reenactment Relive the battle between North and South as soldiers
reenact the American Civil War. The Sample family who lived at Latta
from 1853 to 1922 had four boys who fought and survived the war.
Visitors can walk through the soldier camps, shop with period sutlers, tour
the plantation house and grounds, and watch the main battle at 2:00pm each
day. Admission is $7 per person, ages 5 and under free.

Revolutionary War Reenactment Relive the American Revolution as
soldiers reenact local battles. Visitors can tour soldier camps, see
living history demonstrations, visit the plantation house, and watch the
main battles each day. On Saturday soldiers will reenact the Battle of
Charlotte which originally took place at the corners of Trade and Tryon
Street in Charlotte. On Sunday, soldiers will reenact the Battle of
McIntyre Farm which was fought just a few miles from Latta off Beatties Ford
Road. Admission is $7 per person, ages 5 and under free.
September 25, 2010 (4-8pm)
Bluegrass and BBQ Fundraiser Support Historic Latta Plantation, a
non-profit 501(c)(3) site, as you enjoy live bluegrass music, local bbq, a
silent auction, and more! Children can play in the bounce house, ride
ponies, and explore the plantation grounds. Tickets are $20 per
person, ages 5 and under free.
September 29, 2010 (10am-4pm) Fall

Plantation Christmas Begin the Christmas season by stepping back
into an 1860s Christmas. The plantation will be decorated for a time
period Christmas. Visitors will learn about 1800s Christmas traditions and
meet a Victorian St. Nick in the plantation house, see open-hearth cooking
in the kitchen, and a slave Christmas in the cabin. Free with regular

Candlelight Christmas Step into an 1820s Christmas at Latta as you
tour the plantation by candlelight. Visitors can meet animals in the
carriage barn, see dancing in the house, meet Mr. and Mrs. Latta, enjoy the
excitement of children before bedtime, see a Christmas meal being prepared
in the kitchen, a slave family celebrating in the cabin, and more!
