| The main house is a rectangular, federal-style
building with both front and back entrances at the gable
ends. Most homes in this area had entrances on the long
sides with the fireplaces at the gable ends.
James Latta's choice of style may have been influenced
by the Philadelphia townhouses he had seen.
The granite steps were probably cut on the property
in a quarry that is now under the lake.
Unique dentil molding is featured on both entrances
.It is handmade with a circle and block design called
the Wall of Troy.
The handmade brick in both chimneys is essentially
all original. It is laid in the Flemish Bond pattern.
The foundation is of field stone and has, at some time
in the more recent past, been given a stucco-like coating.
In the photo on the left, this coating has been peeled
off to expose the actual field stones.
