Seed to Spoon: Exploring Historic Foodways in the Carolina Backcountry.

Join us on Thursday, October 3, 2019 from 10 am until 2 pm as we explore historic foodways. Learn how 18th and 19th century folks cultivated, foraged, prepared and stored their food.

• Visit our honey bee yard: learn how honey was used as medicine and in cooking

• Taste switchel: the all natural vinegar based drink that kept yeoman farmers going in the fields

• Work in our garden: Help plant the seeds that will create our winter garden

• Listen to live music: performed with spoons, bones and other homemade instruments

• Watch a basket weaver create hand made baskets, and learn how to make baskets for specific uses

• Join us in the kitchen for a look at foods
• Make apple cider: Help us press apples on a 19th century fruit press to make apple cider
• Make a craft to keep!

Admission is $6. Members and ages 4 and under, free.
