Chancellorsville:  The Prelude to Gettysburg

Civil War Battle Reenactment

At Historic Latta Plantation

The Battle of Chancellorsville, VA took place from April 30 - May 6th 1863.  Union General Joe Hooker attempted to flank Robert E. Lee's army that was advancing down the Orange Turnpike.  However Lee and Stonewall Jackson decided to take aggressive action and march his troops around to the Union army's exposed flank.  His heavily outnumbered 60,000 troops took the Union army's 100,000 by surprise, the Union army was ultimately forced to retreat.  This is considered to be Robert E. Lee's greatest victory of the civil war.
