Civil War Reenactment

Tar Heels at Gettysburg

Civil War Battle Reenactment

At Historic Latta Plantation (July 1st & 2nd, 10am-4pm)

The three-day battle of Gettysburg, to many, is considered the turning point of the American Civil War. The Sample Family, who lived in the Latta House during this time in history, had four sons; John, James, David, and Hugh Sample. Each of these sons served in the 53rd North Carolina, Company B (Mecklenburg Grays), and were at Gettysburg during the horrible bloodshed which occurred. Of course they were not alone, there were many other Tar Heels fighting alongside of them. This reenactment event will draw attention to the Old North State and what her sons did during the infamous Battle of Gettysburg.

Ongoing live demonstrations, lasting from 10am-4pm, daily including an open house, self-guided tour of the living history farm, demonstrations, exhibits, and more. Battles will be showcased daily on the front lawn of the plantation home. Pack your lawn chairs to use as you sit and watch the battle while enjoying a local beer from Olde Mecklenburg Brewery and a funnel cake by Anna’s Sweet Treats. Bring cash for shopping with our sutlers and food vendors.
